I fail to see the problem. They're out to provide catchy music with self love themes. And it's working. How is it different from girl groups singing about crushes and first love?

While ITZY had a watershedthe only thing that kept them from really transforming into bonafide superstars was their overall lack of musical output. While they released two projects last year, they were both single albums. The propulsive and excellently produced club beats that frame much of the track are incredibly invigorating, providing the track with a constant sense of energy.
The final 35 seconds are especially nice, emptying out all the vocals for a pure shot of uncluttered club beats that become more minimal as the track nears its end. This is title track material right here. Opening with tribal-esque chanting and a collage of interesting production flourishes, the track launches into the industrial beat that underlies much of the tracks verses.
After a breathless pre-chorus, it launches into a brilliant chanted hook before the rapid fire second hook comes slamming in. Carried by the strength of its incredibly charismatic and attitude infused verses, You Make Me is a track that just falls short thanks to that let down of a chorus.
Thankfully, it only reappears twice during the song, which makes the interesting choice of omitting the hook during points where you would expect it to reappear. While I doubt there were any actual drums utilised within this track, the ever-present thump that frames much the track is heavily reminiscent of tribal music. The chanted chorus is a choice, but I think they pull it off pretty well. Ok this probably is my least favourite track the group has ever recorded. Produced by renowned artist Sophie, the dark gritty 24HRS combines some of my least favourite musical preferences into one track.
While I adore the dark bass line and synths that open the track, the overly childish pre-chorus and grating hook are easily some of the least enjoyable moments within the groups discography. And at 2 minutes long, the track feels way too short to really carry any weight. And while the albums last three tracks struggle to maintain the incredibly high water mark set by the opening 4 tracks, they still do a good job at maintaining the groups core sound whilst still helping them branch off into unforeseen directions.

The electro strut of its verses recalls imperial-era 2NE1driven by a shot of attitude in bratty, sing-talk style. From here, the track moves into poppier territory, anchored by a surprisingly bright chorus.
Though not completely out of the blue, this section flips expectations as the synths amp up and the tone becomes much happier than the opening verse seemed to promise. From here, things get a bit messy. In fact, this entire segment between choruses refuses to follow any expected structure. Things get back on track for the dramatic bridge, which brings back the chanted elements for a standout build to the final chorus.
In the end, Dalla Dalla lacks the kind of through-line to make it an instant classic, but its energy is pretty infectious. It feels like the aural equivalent of being slapped around, and that may not be a bad thing. After all, debuts are meant to stand out. Dalla may overexert itself, but it certainly grabs attention. When I heard it the breakdown in the second teaser, I was immediately intrigued. After listening to the full song, I wish it or a moment like it was included after every chorus.
The chorus is pretty good, and the post chorus, like you mentioned, is appropriately catchy. The bridge is energetic and gives a little structure to what otherwise would be kind of a messy ending. The MV is flashy and in-your-face, and both the fashion and dancing are accentuated and expertly crafted. Like Liked by 2 people. I thought I would hate this song but I realized that they did what they came to do.
They really captured the style of teen crush that JYP was aiming for. Also I have claimed Yeji as my adopted daughter so the fact that she was everywhere up in this bitch made my happy. I see a lot of potential in these girls. Like Like. The song is very messy and had several weak points in the production. The lyrics in english could definitely be better. There are parts I like: for example the chorus. But its like the song is not trying to be coherent at all- trying to be too many things at once.
I like noise, but not bad noise. This is interesting, but honestly, in the end its just bad music to me. Like Liked by 1 person. It is, in my opinion, one of the worst debut tracks in recent years. Notify me of new comments via email. So many girl groups are taking influence from their bold, colorful sound and style, down to aping the unconventional structures of hits like Dalla Dalla and ICY. But like most imitations, a copy rarely trumps the real thing. New single Wannabe arrives with huge anticipation, reuniting the girls with Dalla Dalla composers Galactika. Most of Wannabe plays like Dalla Dalla Pt.
After a moody music box introduction, Wannabe pulses with a catwalk strut that drips attitude.
Like Dalla DallaWannabe grafts a sugary, melodic chorus onto edgier verses. After only one listen, I could easily recall the entire melody. Even better is the guitar-fueled, anthemic post-chorus hook. They fit so well with the overall vibe and really give the instrumental added heft. The song grows more powerful as it goes on, culminating in a breathless, stuffed-to-the-brim dance break. When it comes to this particular style of girl group pep, no other act is doing it better.
The guitar on the refrain sold me instantly on the song, any buried treasure here? Like Like. Very happy that ITZY continues to stick to their signature sound. The guitar elements really won me over, along with the dance break.ITZY "CHERRY" M/V
Like Liked by 2 people. I almost wish it could have been the title track, although that would have been a huge shift in style for them, and I do like their signature sound.
Its so good and so catchy! The only problem I had with it was the vocals. Maybe it was how I was listening to it but they sounded kinda strained in the begining. Anyways I love the song keep doing your thing Itzy! I like it and it is definitely going into my playlists. Should have had vocals for the chorus because the chanting gets a bit grating over time.
Like Liked by 1 person. If not for the external voices, I may have felt different about it. That, and parts of the mix remind me a little of Red Velvet. I particularly love the long break after the 2nd chorus, and totally hope it can become a trend!
Basically I love instrumentals an refrained instrus such as the one in this breakso it totally works for me. Still not that into Itzy. This song absolutely slaps. The long break after the second verse was jarring and unexpected but I found that it grew on me and had me hyped. I think the only thing that confused me were the vocals which are spectacular but wow, I did not know Yeji had a voice like that.
It also has a post-chorus hook which I absolutely appreciate in songs. Lastly, the sound they use in the pre-chorus. But hey! It least had a chorus.I swear you can even hear a key winding things up. I love this song because it's fierce and bold. But to me, that's more interesting than the hundredth cute band. That chorus is awesome -- it sounds like an army of girls that are telling you how it's going to be.
This is fun and playful. And the primarily male vocals on his part are a bit jarring at first. You don't really expect it. But it gets repeated enough where you get used to it. What I wonder is why? And who's giving whose career a boost? But the net effect is cuter than anything else. That's a minor concern, though. Because the pounding beat, cheerleader chants, and repetition make this a serious bop. Crunchy guitars and catchy beats highlight this one.
I really like how they use the backing track. And they manage to avoid copying Dream Catchertoo. This song is my jam. I like how they set this one up.
Emerging Artists Spotlight: ITZY
Rather than a one-off gimmick, the backing track remains consistent throughout. The rapping in here is better, possibly because there's less of it. I like the structure of this tune, it's very f x -like, with the staccato rhythms and the non-traditional nature.
Some of the special effects in the song are very second gen. It made me a bit wistful for a second. They start out with a thrumming bass, but they abandon it for a bit in favor of chants and it sounds adorable. Almost like schoolyard games. But the main verses are about as cute, and you can almost hear them smiling as they sing.
They've taken their devil may care style to a new level on this mini-album.
I like how they sound fierce and confident. I was hoping to hear more of that and I got my wish. The only thing I wonder is when does this get stale?
In this MV the members do different things, sometimes to establish going against the grain.
